Stats: Sales at Gigs (adjusted)This is the same tables as last time but ADJUSTED for number of gigs (only counting those done since July 2003, when I started keeping records of sales), thus giving us cities and venues ranked by the AVERAGE sales at each gig. Cities first, with the number of gigs in brackets:1. Manchester (1) Now THAT'S informative! As stated earlier, Manchester wins EASILY, closely followed by Cumbria, due to the EXCITING nature of the gigs played there, but after that Sheffield and Hull put in good performances, as do Glasgow, Nottingham and Leicester. These, perhaps not coincidentally, are places I play fairly often! But look right down to the bottom of the list, where we find Derby and Brighton lurking shamefacedly. BOTH places which I've been to a LOT, but obviously not places where people actually wanted me to go! Moving swiftly on, let's look at the same figures split up by individual venues: 1. The Avenue, Manchester (1) These obviously reflect the CITY figures somewhat, as those gigs at The Avenue and The Brook Inn lead the way, but it's interesting to see how many venues that I've only been to the once are in the chart. Could it be that RETURNS DIMINISH the more times I play somewhere, and thus the lesson is it's OK to play the same city, but you should do so in a different building? Finally, JUST FOR FUN, let's have a look at the top venues that I've visited repeatedly (i.e. more than twice) in the same format again: 1. Firebug, Leicester (5) I like this table because it gives a bit of CREDIT to my REGULARS, which as any Pub Landlord will tell you is VITAL. In this one London finally makes a decent showing and I'm pleased to see The Living Room getting a placing too, but look at what's number one! Some people might EXPECT our top repeat-visit venue to be one in Leicester, but for YEARS I would have thought precisely the opposite, as in the early Vlads career LEICESTER was one of the WORST places to play. I guess this was because all the people we KNOW there had seen us (and, more to the point, ME) MILLIONS of times when I was CRAP, so weren't hugely likely to go again. We've continued to play there tho, largely because it's so a) NICE b) HANDY c) good for seeing old PALS, and it would appear that we have managed to interest some NEW people in us. Certainly i notice every time I go back there that there is a GRATE scene of YOUNG bands in that fine city, so perhaps too we are reaping some benefit of being VETERANS of the local scene. Or maybe they just feel sorry for us.
